“Valkyrie?” Skulduggery asks. His voice seems far away. “Valkyrie, are you alright?” I can’t see him, I can’t see anything.

“I’ll get Nye,” I hear Fletcher say. What’s happening?

I try to call out for my friends, but nothing comes out. All I can see is black all I can hear is there voice so far off.

Suddenly, there’s a bright light and I see a boy I don’t recognize. He’s maybe two years younger than me, he has blonde hair, sparkling blue eyes, and an impish smile. &

CHAPTER 1- SABRINA

I wake up screaming, again woken by the nightmare. I look at my door expecting someone to walk in like they have every night this has happened. When no one does I decide that they either didn’t hear me, or they don’t want to deal with me right now. I take a deep breath in an attempt to calm myself down. I lean turn on the lamp next to my bed.

I grab the small journal I keep in my desk drawer. I open

Sadness's Cold GripSadness has its cold grip on me.
No matter how much I struggle it won’t let go.
It just keeps getting tighter.

Everyday I can feel it, slowly tugging at my mind,
Begging for the chance to come out and play.
Most days it seizes it’s chance.
Whither it’s because of a boy or a friend,
Or just to do with how I treat my self,
Sadness can always find a way to come out.

Crying doesn’t help.
It just makes it even more unbearable.
And I don’t know how to deal with it.

I don’t cut, I don’t do anything bad.
Instead I try to talk to my friends, but they seem so far away.
They seem to care but not understand.

The Girl With a Hopeless DreamWhat does he think when he looks at me?
Does he think, “Oh hey there’s my friend”?
What about, “God, she’s pretty”?
Or am I not important enough to him for him to think anything of me when he sees me?

When I look at him, the thousands of thoughts flying in my mind come to a halt.
I can’t think of anything else but him when we are in the same room.
I think about what will happen.
Will he ask me out?
Will he tell me that I’ve ruined everything between us?
Or will he just not really say anything to me?

I don’t know what to do.
We were best friends,
Always by each other sides.

I know I am about to die. I have a bomb strapped to my leg. "How the hell am I supposed to deactivate it?" I scream at Skulduggery.

Don't ask me how I got into this mess because I honestly don't know. All I know is that I was following Skulduggery (he told me not to do it, but I did anyways) when suddenly, there was a bright light and I passed out. When I woke up, I was here in this dank, dark, musty, and dusty dungeon with a bomb on my leg.
